Weddings and Baby Barf! Nice Combo huh!

Well, we had an eventful trip this weekend to Wilmington for a friend of the family's wedding. Its so funny in itself to see us get ready for a trip or I should say see myself get all four of us ready for a trip. I think I did pretty well considering there are 2 babies now and going away for one night can be pretty stressful in itself.
But, I'm very proud of myself and my planning skills to have everything I need for my toddler, my 3 month old and myself and as my hubby jokingly adds can you pack my things too. yeah not likely! But, we got off to a good start getting on the road a little after 9am and both babes eventually nod off to sleep. The car rides have gotten fairly smooth for the time being, I still need more room in the car but thats another story in itself.

We got there around lunch time and hung out in my in-laws room while we waited for ours to get ready. My MIL & SIL took Aidan with them shopping for a bit while Chris, myself, Emma and my FIL hung out in the room while I fed Emma then we got a bit to eat. Then, we have to get ready for the wedding....I wish I could have filmed all that was going in our room getting ready. Oh, before we got in our room that claimed they lost our reservation, so Chris goes to the lobby and proceeds to tell them a thing or to, I didn't go, its best to not be around when Chris gets himself worked up! Ha, well, after that we got a room upgrade which was nice a King size bed instead of the two doubles. :)

So, imagine me trying to dress an infant and chase a toddler around to put him in dressy clothes, that was funny. You forget how easy it is with a baby until you have a wild toddler running away from you as you try to dress or un-dress them. Thank god she is a laid back baby, she just laid there and smiled while I chased her brother around the room, who thought it was a game by that point. Its a miracle he looked halfway decent. Its also a miracle that I looked halfway decent, I tend to forget to leave enough time to get myself ready. We finally got ready and drove over to the wedding which was outside at the end of June in Wilmington! Needless to say it was HOT! I love outdoor weddings and this one was beautiful, but way too hot and not a place for babies. Luckily there were some shady trees around, but Emma was still not liking it, she was just hot poor thing and I had brought a bottle for her but she was just not in the mood. So, the weddings getting ready to start and I have a crying baby to tend to, I walk her around trying to soothe her and next thing I know she barfs everywhere! All over me and her, luckily no one really saw it except for my BIL who was trying his best to keep his 14 month old son cool and helped me clean her off. Then my MIL came to my rescue and helped me out we got her and myself cleaned up and then she gave Emma the rest of her bottle and she was content the rest of the wedding, thank goodness it didn't really last that long. I don't think Chris even saw the wedding b/c he was walking Aidan around the garden the whole time, but you can't expect a 2 yr old to sit still for a wedding ceremony. People surprise me sometimes, there were two women sitting near us in the shade and saw me trying to calm my baby down and ask me or it seemed like a statement more than a question. One of them states: My friend would love to hold your baby if you don't mind. "If I don't mind" I wanted to say are you crazy woman! My baby is hot, fussy and I don't know you from Adam and you want to hold her, ummm NO. Why is it that some people think you are just going to hand your 3 month old over to them, esp. when your baby is crying, um yeah not gonna happen!

Then we walked to another location for cocktails while we waited for the reception to start. I did manage to have one corona which was delish and luckily this area had some fountains that Aidan could play in while we waited. Then we walked over to the reception area which was just beautiful, it really looked like it was out of a movie. Made me think of the outdoor wedding in that movie Wedding Crashers. Beautiful white tent, the colors on the tables were nice shades of greens and browns and golds with oriental paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and lights all throughout and large flower centerpieces and it was next to a gorgeous 400 yr old tree oak with moss hanging off of it and all next to the water. I can see why they wanted to have their wedding there, but man it was so HOT. Emma really did well considering the heat she slept most of the time and Aidan had a lot more fun than I thought he would, he really loved dancing on the dance floor. I will post more about that on his blog. But, we ended up leaving around 9ish and I hated leaving early and I can't seem to finish a drink these days without getting distracted, probably for the best. Even though I had planned to give Emma pumped milk and have a few drinks, but that never worked out. She is so used to nursing in the evenings I just couldn't force her to drink a bottle when she needed me to help her wind down. So, we decided to leave b/c Emma was starting to get fussy and I was trying my best to nurse her, but if you can imagine trying to nurse outside in the heat, sweating and the occasional bug, I was constantly worried she was getting bit by something and I was causing her to get hotter, so we decided to head back. Needless to say when we get back and I fed her she still ends up barfing all over me and I course I had just changed myself and her into the only pjs I brought. I had brought other outfits for her but didn't think I was going to need more pjs, ugh! (Thought I had planned well) and you know how cold hotel rooms can be, so I had to put her in a onesie and pants and her little arms kept getting so cold, so needless to say I didn't sleep much besides what was going on with Aidan, check his post out later for that. I'm not used to her sleeping in a co-sleeper so I kept checking her and keeping myself up, geez! Emma slept better than all 3 of us, when I finally got her cleaned up again and fed her one more time she went to sleep and didn't get up until 6:30 the next morning. Such a little trooper. I will post pics of her in her cute white dress she wore to the wedding soon.

So, we had fun, but it was also stressful at the same time, if that's possible. I've become oblivious to Emma's barfing now. I was reading my sisters blog about how baby poop and barf don't bother her but her cat's barfing does! ha! Chris still freaks out when she does it and I seem to react like oops there she goes again and change her clothes and move on. I was hoping she would have outgrown this by now, but she really doesn't do it but on rare occasions, but considering what she had gone through I wasn't surprised she was barfing on me. ah, the joys of motherhood! :)

Wow, what a crazy weekend! Traveling with Carter requires so much planning and equipment; I can't imagine traveling with a 2yo as well!

It sounds like you managed to have some fun regardless. I'm still amazed that those people wanted to hold Emma! It's amazing what complete strangers will do and say to you when you have a baby. It never ceases to amaze me how people will get right up in Carter's face and touch his hands and stuff, and I'm thinking, "When did you wash your hands last? Those fingers will be in his mouth in about ten seconds..." I need to find a polite-ish way to ask them to touch his feet instead.

Poor little Emma, with all the heat and the barfing. It makes for a good story, I guess. Hopefully she'll outgrow that soon!

Nana loved keeping Emma on Friday, she is such a good baby. I hate that she got sick, but I am sure the heat did not help at all. Donna, you are a great mom, it is suprising how your priorities change when you have children.. Love you all, Nana B
